The sound of footsteps across the gymnasium floor became lost in the chatter of indiscriminate voices and laughter. I took a pull from my water bottle trying to cool myself from the warmth of standing under the lights. I spent most of my time talking to people one by one, answering mostly the same few questions, telling mostly the same back stories, building camaraderie with folks, and looking around at many familiar faces. Everyone was in their own little world but all right there together.
Downieville California is a sleepy little mountain town where the North Yuba and the Downie Rivers meet. The roads are narrow and traffic is slow as people seem to mostly meander around downtown on foot, exploring the local museum and quaint little shops. It was last weekend that the quiet town of Downieville woke up to the excitement of the Gold Rush as prospectors and miners pulled up in droves to bring back Gold Rush Days to Downieville.
Josh Reinke is a friend of ours. He owns Reinke Mining Adventures and he organized the event. I strongly urge you to connect with him. We had a booth in the school gymnasium where we were selling gold. There were many other vendors selling prospecting equipment, trommels, sluice boxes, metal detectors, prospecting books, jewelry, and more. It was a prospector's dream.
We stayed at a little cabin on the Yuba. Everyday after the show we would go out on prospect a claim on the North Fork Yuba River and everyday we found Gold. Myself, Kayla, Dave, Chase, and Shelby were panning and metal detecting and the gold was everywhere. We bought gold, sold gold, and found gold. The weekend was a huge hit. Everyone had a great time. It's so cool to see so many people keeping the Gold Rush alive. We are all definitely looking forward to the next Downieville Gold Rush Days.
Connect with all of these companies when you can and come hang out with us next time we do a gold show.
